Flummer - When Fall & Summer Collide

Flummer.

Yes, I made it up.  And I know, you're not "technically" allowed to start using made-up words in public until you "officially" have a PhD, but I've put in a lot of time, and I'd like to just try this one out for a while.  Don't worry, I won't try and publish it or anything.

It's Flummer, here in SC.  Since this word is new territory for... well, everyone except me, I'll expand a bit upon it.  Help you understand exactly what it means and how to recognize it.

It might be Flummer when it's dark in the morning (yes, this is morning, as in "straight on 'til morning," morning),
but still reaches highs of 90+ in the afternoon
It might be Flummer when both Chili and Watermelon seem seasonally appropriate.

Now that I've cleared that up, let me tell you that the creation of this word has eased my mind quite a bit.  Before, I was worried about not being content, as it was still summer and felt like fall (or fall and felt like summer, I couldn't really tell) and I didn't know which to want.  Now, I can be content that it is Flummer.  In Flummer, people do things, like take hikes and watch football, and yet still go swimming in the out-of-doors and drink lemonade when the sun beats to hot.  Flummer is a time for long-sleeved t-shirts and shorts.  There.  That last one really clears everything up.  I should have led with that.

In other news, I'm in love with up-cycling T-shirts.  You like an idea on there?  You have an idea?  Want to know if something is possible?  Email me, message me, dare me to do it, and I'll try it and send it to you.  I'm also trying to summon the gumption to get my cookbook done.  I'm feeling more like cooking these days, so perhaps it will all come together before Christmas.  Or at least next Flummer.

Finally, as I've done about 4 hours of homework so far tonight and got a vaccination earlier today (not that it really impacts anything other than my shoulder-press-skills tomorrow), I leave you with these images of an evening well spent.

This cup.
This unassuming cup.
Got it for free.
Hadn't used it yet.
Until I found it's purpose in life.
J'ai trouves le raison d'etre pour la coupe

This cup is the Perfect Oreo dunking cup.
It's skinny, yet large enough to get a hand inside.
It's tall enough not to need refilled, but doesn't waste too much milk either.

*Note that I did not eat at the Sushi Bar that the cup obviously came from.
Because I don't do that sort of thing.*
I called this picture "Oreos Defeated" when I saved it.
Really, I think the name says it all.
One of these days, I'm going to have a dinner party, and we're going to serve Oreos, Chips Ahoy, and Nutter Butters for dessert, with tall glasses of cold milk.  It just seems so perfect.  You can come, if you want to.

Question of the day: What type of Oreo gal or guy are you?  Me, I'm a single-stuffed.  I went with the "Holiday Single-Stuffed" on the suggestion of a friend, and they weren't bad, but I like the original.  Now,  double, well, that's just too much for me.  A Triple-Double?  I can't even fathom.

  2. Ahh yes, Flummer. The long-sleeved Tshirt & shorts comment cleared everything up. A classic look for Flummer.

    I adore your dinner party dessert idea. Can I come?

  3. I too love Flummer. We had a great Flummer storm last night. Also, have you tried the peanut butter Oreos? What do you think of them?

  4. @Miss Hannah,

    Your ideas are overwhelming, I love them! Now get off pinterest!

    @HyFireWife,

    You can definitely come to my party!

    @TakeNothingForGranted,

    I've never tried the PB Oreos. I'm half afraid to mess with perfection, half afraid I'd never stop eating them. What are your thoughts on the matter?

    Thanks for taking the time to comment, I love the interaction!

  5. I love original, double-stuffed Oreo, but I should clarify that I'm very old and back in the good ol' days, the single-stuffed was about the same as the double-stuffed now.

    You did a great job explaining Flummer. I've lived in the south all my life, and have never really understood it that clearly.
    Except here, people tend to wear shorts and long sleeves for most of winter, too. And flip-flops. With socks.

    Oreos, just the cookie - no cream - just milk...mmm I clean them off ahead of time and end up with a plate of oreo cream.

  7. @Melissa,

    I've seen those people with socks and sandals. I'm married to one, actually :)

    @JayneK,

    Just the cookie, no milk... a bold move! That is how I used to eat them as a kid, except I ate all the cream out of the middle, then dunked the cookie!

    Thanks for stopping by!
