Is This Offensive? You Vote!

I just have to know.

So y'all know I've started up an Etsy shop.  And I might be addicted.  I've been making purses pretty much non-stop, and I love it!  They're quick to whip up (relative to, say, a quilt!) and extremely satisfying!  And I've had this one shirt I wanted to make a tote out of for a while...

And so I did...

And I put it up for sale...

Is it offensive?  I don't want to be offensive!  I found it at Sally Anne's (which I'm thinking of changing my shop name to, FYI), and just couldn't not buy it.

The front
The back.
I'm fairly certain it was made by one Chinese person for another, as a joke.  At least, that's my guess.  Help me here, I'm conflicted.

Please weigh in!

Insulting peoples everywhere,

  1. You have Chinese friends (at least until they see this purse). Ask them. I voted yes, because I think it must have been meant to be snarky originally. But, along those same lines, it will sell for sure.

  2. I'm not Chinese so I don't know if it's offensive, but I do know southerners and others find the Redneck jokes hilarious, so I'm thinking this might be along the lines of that. So I voted no.

  3. @Dallimomma,

Snarky! That's the word I was looking for! Thanks. And yes, I agree, it probably is offensive, but kindly so, if that makes sense :)

  4. @Melissa,

But do southerners find Redneck jokes told by Yankees, offensive?? I'm probably just going to ask one of my Chinese friends, but thanks for your input!!

  5. I totally didn't even get the shirt, until you said you think it was made by one Chinese person to another, as a joke. Then it kinda makes sense. In that context, I agree with the other commenters, it's as offensive as, say, redneck jokes.

Honestly, I think your intentions are good, and that you thought it was a funny shirt, not to offend anyone. That being said, I am also certain that SOMEONE out there will in fact find it offense. Because SOMEONE out there will find something offensive in everything.

  6. It depends on if the Yankee is joking, of course.

Then again, my sister had some neighbors from NY that was constantly causing trouble with her and one night when we there, they got into a yelling match and the Yankees were trying to insult us but they were just so funny we fell over laughing.

  7. Not weighing in on the vote. No idea. Just wanted to say how cute the bags are :-)

  8. @Val,

Thank you! I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing. Which is your favorite?
