So, when we last left each other, I was setting up the tent for an impromptu backyard campout.
What? You haven't been waiting with baited breath (I love that saying for some reason) for me to fill you in on the rest of the adventure? Please, dahling, you're fooling yourself. You live and die on these pages here.
Alright, back to the story.
So, I set up the tent, and Handsome went to work on getting a campfire going. Because we all know that a campout isn't a campout without a campfire. Or without grilled food. So I started grilling, and then ran out of propane, then ran and got some more propane, and then resumed grilling. We at at 9:30. It was most definitely an adventure. Riveting, really. We should have just eaten Jiffy Pop.
Can you believe that Handsome had never done the Jiffy Pop thingy? Oh my, we loved that as kids. That and the colored popcorn. Any one else ever do that?? You should know something else. Something about those new flat marshmallows. One isn't enough for a s'more. Its just not. Two, with chocolate sandwiched in between, is perfect for a s'more. Just so you know.
We made s'mores and sat around under the stars. We chatted a bit, and then put the fire to bed. Duke didn't understand why he wasn't allowed to go inside to go to bed. When we finally settled down in our cavernous tent (A six-person tent that actually sleeps six people? Who's ever heard of such a thing?) we realized that that our air mattress was already 1/2 deflated.
Wiser people than us might have called it a night. Said "Good enough" for the camping trip, and trudged up to bed, a little smokey, but none the worse for wear. More ingenious folk might have gone and grabbed all the blankets in the house, thrown the air mattress in the fire, and slept on cushioned comfort. But we were neither, and we thought "Maybe that's all it's going to leak. How bad could it be?"
We were so wrong. Worst night's sleep ever. When 6 AM came around, and we could get up, we were so happy. Its nice to know that Handsome is just as stubborn as me, and toughed it out without me having to ask him to. So now we've camped. And now we want to get either a new air mattress, or cots. Hubs thinks cots would be best. I want a pillowtop air mattress made of marshmallows and goose down and rainbows.
We're still in negotiations.
Loving my real bed,
